Premium Grass Seed for Premium Results

Welcome to Striped Seed Co… good to see you!

Beautiful, thick, dark green grass starts with high-quality grass seed. And no one knows this better than golf course superintendents and turfgrass professionals. They demand the best and that means using very specific suppliers to source elite grass seed cultivars and blends. Seed that performs exceptionally well when it comes to characteristics like colour, disease tolerance, and foot traffic.

Unfortunately for regular homeowners, getting access to seed like this isn’t so easy - historically speaking. For one, it’s not available amongst the mass-market, generic options in Big Box stores or local garden centres. And even if you are willing to do the legwork and chase down a professional turfgrass supplier, they’ll usually only deal with you if you’re willing to purchase a very large quantity of seed like a 50lb bag—when all you really need is 5 or 10lbs (2-5kg’s) of seed for a typical urban lawn.

Striped Seed Co. is aiming to change all that.

We're on a mission to offer elite grass seed cultivars and blends directly online to Canadian lawn enthusiasts - in homeowner-friendly quantities - shipped to your front door.

It's Starts With Quality

We're sourcing elite grass seed that has historically been sold in commercial quantities to large professional turfgrass companies and premium sod growers who require the best product available in order to satisfy demanding clients like professionals who build and maintain golf courses and sportsfields (for example).

Which means we're making seed that was previously reserved for these kinds of demanding, professional turfgrass applications available to homeowners who want the best possible product for their lawns (and an unfair advantage over their neighbours ;).

The Rise of the Home-Lawn Superintendent

With the introduction of the internet, social media and YouTube, lawncare enthusiasts have been able to find and connect with each other, share knowledge, and increasingly figure out (together) how to adapt professional turf management products and practices to their home lawns. And in most cases, the fundamentals are the same, it’s just the scale that's different.

This has given rise to a growing group of lawn “prosumers” who aren’t satisfied with Big Box quality products and prefer instead to seek out better quality options that will get them better results. This has usually involved spending hours in forums, finding obscure suppliers on page six of Google, and buying expensive, large quantities of seed and other lawn inputs.

This of course, is all driven by the pursuit of constant improvement, pride of homeownership, and the satisfaction that comes from the simple act of mowing your lawn.

It’s All About the Stripes

Beautiful, straight lawn stripes are typically only found on the very best lawns and are also a hallmark of the nicest golf courses and ballparks across the world. Lawn stripes aren’t for everybody, but for many lawn enthusiasts, a thick, dark green, beautifully striped lawn is an aspirational goal.

Striped Seed Co. takes its name from this aspiration and our commitment to providing a product that will allow you to achieve your version of your lawn goals. Whether you’re at the beginning of your lawncare journey and finally want to tackle those pesky bare patches, or you’re a seasoned lawncare nut reel mowing low-cut turf and putting down stripes twice a week (guilty!).

Where it All Began

Ever since a Friday in 2019 when I climbed in my car and drove 1.5 hours to a commercial golf course supply company to get the elite grass seed I wanted for my lawn and had to shell out for a huge 50lb bag, I’ve been thinking to myself that there's a problem here worth solving.

So in 2021 I decided to combine my professional background in ecommerce with my personal passion for all things lawncare and established Striped Seed Co—a new, more convenient and more direct option for Canadian homeowners seeking out great grass seed.

Thanks for stopping by and please come say hi on Instagram.
