Elite Shade Grass Seed Blend
Our Elite Shade grass seed blend has been formulated specifically to a deliver a lush, thick lawn in shady areas with more limited sunlight. It consists of four cultivars that have been handpicked for their abilities to tolerate and thrive in low-light conditions, are low maintenance and drought tolerant, and blend well together. Individually and as a blend, this selection of fescues, ryegrass, and bluegrass offer exceptional colour, disease resistance, and overall turf quality. Shadow III Chewings Fescue (30%)
Chewings fescues have more upright growth than creeping fescues, but retain the fine texture of the fine fescue group of grasses. Chewings fescue is a bunch type that forms a very dense, tight knit turf. Characteristic of fine fescues, are the finest leaves, most shade tolerance, lowest moisture requirements of all cool season grasses. In addition, they germinate more rapidly than Kentucky bluegrass.
Shadow III Chewings Fescue delivers increased turf quality and disease resistance. In offers strong tolerance to drought conditions and fast recovery from summer stress. Often used by golf courses in un-mowed roughs or along bunker faces, Shadow III performs well under low maintenance situations, however, one of the more desirable traits of Shadow III is that it can be mown to a height as low as .375 when used in high-maintenance programs.
It is an ideal choice as a stand alone or to blend with other cool season grasses such as perennial ryegrass or Kentucky bluegrass.
Kevin Strong Creeping Red Fescue (30%)
Kevin Strong Creeping Red Fescue is a new variety that boasts top-notch turf performance. It offers excellent tolerance to shade, dark green colour, and improved disease tolerance. It performs well at fairway height but is also able to thrive in poorly drained soils, and requires minimal maintenance. Kevin Strong Creeping Red Fescue maintains great density and is wear-resistant.
Kevin blends perfectly with other fine fescues, Kentucky bluegrass, and perennial ryegrass. For those who want to take advantage of cutting-edge technology in strong creeping red fescue, Kevin is an excellent choice.
Principal II Perennial Ryegrass (25%)
Principal II (PPG-PR372) perennial ryegrass is a new generation of perennial ryegrass released in 2018. It is a top NTEP performing variety for overall quality, gray leaf spot tolerance and drought tolerance.
Principal II is an advanced poly cross from plots in Oregon and New Jersey. Extensive selections from each location were allowed to cross to form this new variety. At these locations, it demonstrated superior persistence with summer stress, excellent germination and establishment.
Principal II's other remarkable qualities, as shown in the NTEP, is improved damage repair, salt tolerance and fall density

Right Kentucky Bluegrass (15%)
With its dark green color and high density, Right resides at the top of the elite Kentucky bluegrass category. It is a “Midnight” hybrid without the rust issues. It was selected for dark genetic color, low growth habit, and exceptional shade tolerance. Right is resistant to leaf spot, stem rust, powdery mildew, leaf rust, and crown rust.
Right mixes well and compliments perennial ryegrass and fescues. It can handle low mowing .5” and is a popular choice for golf course use. With excellent shade performance characteristics, Right is also a popular choice for stadiums with shade issues or areas of reduced light levels. It is also ideal for low maintenance as it maintains great color with little disease pressure from reduced fertilizer and watering.
